Charmo University is a public university located in the town of Chamchamal in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq. The university officially became an independent public university in 2014 after originally operating as a branch of the University of Sulaimani. The name “Charmo” comes from the ancient village of Charmo (also known historically as Jarmo), one of the world’s oldest agricultural settlements located east of Chamchamal.
