Mawlawi Market in Sulaimaniyah is one of the oldest and most famous traditional markets in the city center, considered its commercial and cultural heart. It houses a wide array of shops selling clothing, fabrics, spices, local products, and everyday necessities, and is characterized by its vibrant and traditional atmosphere. Located near historical landmarks and popular cafes, the market is an ideal destination for tourists to experience local life, shop at reasonable prices, and discover the authentic spirit of Sulaimaniyah.

The market's design blends heritage and modernity, attracting both the poor and the wealthy, who find what they seek there. It remains a major attraction for most tourists visiting Sulaimaniyah Governorate from various parts of the world. The market was originally called New Street, due to its paving in 1937. In 1956, it was renamed Mawlawi Street, after the poet Abdul Rahim Mulla Saeed Mawlawi, a Kurdish Sufi poet born in Sulaimaniyah in 1806. It is believed that the poet's wife, Anbar Khatun, bestowed this title upon her, as she was an Afghan woman, and this title was used among her people

Mawlawi Market is one of the busiest places in Sulaimaniyah, teeming with shoppers. The market holds a special place for the city's residents and for Arabs who frequently visit the region. You can find affordable hotels and goods suitable for families at prices that suit the needs of those with limited or middle incomes. While strolling through the market, your eye will be drawn to the shop windows and stalls overflowing with various kinds of fruits and vegetables, arranged in a visually appealing way that entices passersby to buy. I loved wandering around and taking pictures! 😍

Between the former government building and the Grand Mosque of Sulaymaniyah, your eyes will fall upon “Mawlawi Street,” one of the most important markets that embodies the old popular spirit and the modernity of life in its place, with dozens of amazing vendors and shops that will inevitably make you think about spending more and more time inside it.

One of the most beautiful markets I've visited in Sulaymaniyah Governorate. Its design, in the old architectural style, beautifully reflects Iraqi heritage. As soon as you enter, you'll be captivated and eager to take photos. It boasts numerous shops, vegetable stalls, and traditional restaurants offering a variety of delicious dishes at very reasonable prices compared to other tourist destinations in Iraq. The first thing that catches the eye is the wooden design of one of the restaurants at the market entrance, along with shops selling handcrafted items like trays and other handmade goods. A
