Kurdish monuments: Shirwana Castle, in the city of Kalar, 1866 AD. Shirwana Castle is situated atop a high earthen mound on the west bank of the Sirwan River, within the city of Kalar, the capital of the Germiyan region in southern Kurdistan. Shirwana Castle was built between 1866 and 1874 by order of the Kurdish prince Muhammad Pasha Jaf (1810-1881), ruler of the Jaf Emirate. Kalar was the winter capital of the Jaf Emirate, while Halabja, in the Shahrazur Plain, served as its summer capital. The beautiful Shirwana Castle is considered a prime example of Kurdish architectural excellence.

It was built by Mohamed Pasha Jaff, Kurdish king named by the Ottomans Empire in the 1800s. After the Mamluk Vali of Baghdad, Suleiaman Pasha, dealt a crushing defeat to the Persian occupation of Abbas Mirza Qajar of Northern Mesopotamia, and put to flight the Babans in 1850, Mohamed Pasha Jaff along with the Jaff nomads were allowed to dwell in the Shahrizor unharassed by the Ottomans or Persians in any way. A golden age began for the Jaff as they became a major power in all the region. Their nomadic caravans were allowed pasture from Khanaqin and Qizil Rubat to Panjwin in the Shahrizor regio

This is a very beautiful city and the people are lovely.
Located on the south suburbs of Kalar town, lies this castle that was built by Muhammad Pash Beg of Jaff (1866–1874) as a center of his tribe. It’s octagonal in shape and consists of a basement and two floors with many nicely decorated rooms and now they serve as a museum. The hill probably served as a garrison or a tower in older times as some excavation revealed different historical levels of Islamic (Umayyid and Abbasid) and Sassanids. Easy to reach and walk around. The other side of the place,it has large empty area around and nothing has been done or built, such as a garden or an amusemen
Realy good view from up there to the town itself
